ArborShadow Accuracy

Overlap Area Analysis (two trees)

For this test I used two trees with different tree shadow sizes and ensured that both trees overlaid a reference area and each other to some extent. The resulting overlap area calculation produced by ArborShadow is then compared with the same calculation as produced by AutoCAD.

The difference between each value was then calculated as a percentage of the AutoCAD value and plotted (see below).

The results are all below 2.5% but significantly higher than those for a single tree. The test shows that once multiple trees are used and overlap each other within a reference area the tolerances start to multiply. Most of the samples gave a result of nearly 1% and below with only the peak of sample 5 (of nearly 2.5%) being significantly higher than the others; this may relate to the relatively small size of its overlap area (of approximately 58m sq).
