ArborShadow Accuracy

Overlap Area Analysis (3+ trees)

For this test I used a number of tree with different tree shadow sizes and ensured that all trees overlaid a reference area and each other to some extent. The resulting overlap area calculation produced by ArborShadow is then compared with the same calculation as produced by AutoCAD.

I have labelled each column with the number of trees used for the analysis. Remember that these all overlap each other within the target area and I have ensured that no tree shadow is completely obscured by a neighbour (so each influences the total area result).

The difference between each value was then calculated as a percentage of the AutoCAD value and plotted (see below).

As with the results for two tree overlap, most of these samples have an accuracy of below 2.5%. And again the rogue peak result (this time of over 5%) relates to a relatively smaller size of overlap area (when compared to its neighbours).
