A demonstration version of ArborShadow can be downloaded for free.
It is fully functioning but will only allow you to process trees
with pre-defined dimensions. However, you can still try out the
programs features.
The program requires the
installation of the Microsoft .NET framework on your PC. The .NET
framework is a collection of resource files which programs can use
to carry out certain functions. You can find out whether the system
is already installed by attempting to run the downloaded setup
program. It will inform you whether or not you need to install .NET. Further information about the framework
(including its system requirements) can be found on its download
page.
Hint: try running ArborShadow first to see if this is already installed. Vista & W7 users should not need to install this.
Notes:
Once ArborShadow is downloaded you need to open the Setup file so
that the necessary folders are created and support files installed.
The ArborShadow download comprises of three files which are
compressed as a Zip file. If you are using an older version of
Windows then you may need to download the ZIP utility program to
'unzip' the file. Try opening the Zip File first to see if it
unpacks. It may offer to run the Setup File automatically or you may
need to select this yourself. The free Zip Utility program (if
needed) can be downloaded here. I recommend that you first save the
download file to disk first and then unpack as the file is large and
you may need to run setup more than once if you are unsure whether
.NET is installed on your PC.
If you already have ArborShadow installed on to your PC and are
downloading a newer version, then you must first remove the current
version from your PC by selecting the 'Add/Remove programs' from
your Control Panel and selecting the ArborShadow entry. Your
existing files should remain intact and not be over written.
Important:
It is advisable that you DO NOT run the Setup file from within
WinZip. Instead extract each of the files to a new folder on
your hard drive, then close WinZip, and run Setup from the new
folder. Once installed do not remove the folder with the original
Setup and .MSI file as these may be needed for Repair purposes. If
you choose run the Setup file directly from WinZip, ArborShadow will
still install correctly but you may lose Shortcut connectivity.
