The Plan Builder is only necessary if you intend to use CAD drawings with ArborTrail. It installs onto your PC/laptop and is free to use.
The program requires the installation of the Microsoft .NET framework on your PC. The .NET framework is a collection of resource files which programs can use to carry out certain functions. You can find out whether the system is already installed by attempting to run the downloaded setup program. It will inform you whether or not you need to install .NET. Further information about the framework (including its system requirements) can be found on its download page.
Hint: try running Plan Builder first to see if the .Net framework is already installed. Vista & W7 users should not need to install this.
This is the latest version of Plan Builder but it can only be used with ArborTrail versions 1.16 or later. So if you wish to use the advanced functions of this Plan Builder you will need to update your ArborTrail version.
This version of Plan Builder will produce drawings compatible for all ArborTrail versions but the Plan Builder lacks many advanced features.
Once ArborTrail Plan Builder is downloaded you
need to install it to your PC/Laptop. The Plan Builder download
comprises of two files. They are labelled as 'Setup.exe' and as 'Arbortrail
Builder.MSI'. Both files are combined within a Zip file for easier
download. If you are using an older version of Windows then you may
need to download the ZIP utility program to 'unzip' the file.
Important: It is advisable that you DO NOT run the Setup file from
within WinZip. Instead extract each of the two files to a new folder
on your hard drive, then close WinZip, and run Setup from the new
folder. Once installed do not remove the folder with the original
Setup and .MSI file as these may be needed for Repair purposes.
If you choose run the Setup file directly from WinZip, the program
will still install correctly but you may lose Shortcut connectivity.
